

We were thrilled at being acknowledged for our work over the years spreading awareness about the benefits of using Makaton through songs, stories and games. It was such a surprise and an overwhelmingly positive piece of news after a challenging year under Covid. On New Years’ Day 2021 the two of us discovered that we’d been awarded MBEs in the Queen’s New Years’ Honours List for Services to Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. They even managed to teach Prince Charles some Makaton in the process! Suzanne shares their experience. You will receive a Participant’s Manual which includes the signs and symbols that you have learned and you will also be given a certificate of attendance. People (family, relationships and people around us) On the workshop you will learn 300 signs and symbols covering the following topics: The workshop looks at Makaton Users in a person-centred way, to develop their communication skills, make choices, understand what is happening and to meet their needs as effectively as possible. The workshop is about safeguarding all people with additional communication needs, focusing on topics such as health, wellbeing, hygiene and relationships.
